Senior Pastor: Rev. Dr. Michael Martin

Michael accepted Christ as Savior at age 8.  He first felt God's calling to ministry work when he was a high school student.  While in high school, he served as a Lay Minister at First Wesleyan Church of Statesville, NC.  During his service as a Lay Minister, he was blessed with the opportunity to preach for the first time.  In 2001, he became a member of the newly created Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church of Statesville, NC.  During his service at Lighthouse Independent Methodist Church, he served as an assistant Sunday School teacher and had numerous opportunities to preach sermons to the congregation.  From 2002-2005, Michael attended UNC-Charlotte where he earned a bachelor's degree in History-Secondary Education.

Following his graduation from UNC-Charlotte in December of 2005, he served as a substitute teacher with Iredell-Statesville Schools.  In August of 2006, he accepted his first teaching position at North Wilkes High School, where he taught Social Studies and served as assistant athletic trainer.  In August of 2007, he accepted a teaching position at Western Alamance High School. While at Western Alamance, he served as a teacher and athletic trainer.  In 2012, God brought many changes in his life.  He started in a new teaching position, as God called him to return home and teach middle school at East Iredell Middle School.  God also led Michael and his family to a new ministry setting, Hebron Baptist Church.  God provided new ministry opportunities.  Michael was blessed to serve as a fill-in minister, Sunday School teacher, sound technician, and Sunday School Director while at Hebron Baptist Church.

God has also opened doors for Michael to participate in numerous mission trips.  Michael has been blessed to serve in Norfolk VA, Frederick MD, Yadkin County NC, Fort Pierce FL, London England, and most recently Western Europe.  God blessed Michael by opening the door for him to serve as a Staff Discipler with Royal Servants and Reign Ministries in 2014.  Michael completed a Master of Arts in Ministry, with concentrations in Pastoral Care & Counseling and Practical Theology in June 2014.  In January 2015, Michael was blessed with the opportunity to start a Doctor of Ministry program at John Wesley University.  With God's guidance, Michael completed the Doctor of Ministry in leadership program in December 2017.

Michael was ordained into Gospel Ministry on April 26, 2015 and now serves the fellowship of Morningside Baptist Church as our Senior Pastor.

"I am excited to serve as Senior Pastor of Morningside Baptist Church.  This is my first time to minister as Senior Pastor and I look forward to the great things God has in store for Morningside Baptist Church.

Minister To Students: Billy Ragland

Billy became our Youth and Children's Minister on October 1, 2007.  He has 33+ years in Youth Ministry, served as the Youth Team Leader for the Transylvania Baptist Association for 14 years, and has run a high school sports website since 1999.  He received a degree in Marketing and Computer Science from Asheville Buncombe Community College and the University of North Carolina at Asheville.  He is a graduate of Rosman High School.  He was born in Marysville, California, but has lived most of his life in the Brevard area.  He is the son of Bill and Lucille Ragland, and has one brother, Dale Ragland, and one sister, Rhonda Ragland Burris.

"I'm excited about what God is doing in our student ministries at Morningside.  It is my desire to see our students develop a genuine relationship with Christ, learn what being a Christ follower means, and then provide opportunities for them to use their gifts to reach their families, friends, community, and world.  My favorite verse is Galatians 2:20 'I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.'   That was my grandmother's favorite verse, and it reminds me that all I do is made possible only through faith in Christ.  You can find out more about our youth and children's ministry here on the website
